Theme is used to change the look and feel of a blog or website, most blogging platforms provide numerous themes to get a user started.
But the mode in which these themes are being installed differs across the various platforms.
Although some platforms only restrict users to choose from the available themes on their platform, while others enable users to upload a custom or a third-party themes to add more designs and neat appearance to their blogs.
Below is a precise guide on how to change and upload theme to the three most prominent and widely used blogging platforms, that is Google blogger, .com WordPress and the self-hosted WordPress.
INSTALLING THEME ON BLOGGER
Blogger is one of the popular and easy-going blogging platform, changing a theme on it is not a big deal.
Just go to your dashboard, Find THEME, click it, and choose from the various available themes there.
But what if you want to add a third-party theme or your own theme?
Follow the steps below:
STEP ONE: Get your theme, you can get as much as you want ranging from to paid, you can use Google search for that.
The themes usually come in a .zip format, so you need to extract it, download a RAR application on play store (if you are using an Android device) or install WinRAR (if you are using a computer), both softwares will help you extract the zipped files.
STEP TWO: Extract the file that comes with a .xml extension, that is, if the name of the theme you downloaded is ABUASLAM, you should find a file named ABUASLAM.XML then extract it.
STEP THREE: login to your blogger dashboard, from the right links, find THEME and click it. A pop up page will appear, go to the top right side of the page, you will find red-shaded link BACKUP/ RESTORE, click it.
Use the box displayed to choose the file with the .xml extension from your computer or Android device and click upload.
STEP FOUR: congratulations, you have just successfully added a custom third-party theme into your blog.
But one may be disappointed when his blog is viewed on a mobile device. When the theme that has just been installed can only be viewed on a computer giving the mobile view an awfully look.
There is something you can do about it.
STEP FIVE: To make your theme live even on mobile devices, you should go to blogger dashboard >> THEME >> MOBILE , click the GEARS (a setting icon) just beneath the mobile box.
A pop up will appear, select option two which says No. Show desktop theme on mobile devices. And click save.

Adding a theme to WordPress hosted blog is simple and easy, to begin with:
Simply login to your WordPress dashboard using a browser or WordPress Android application. At the top menu, click the W sign and a dashboard will appear, scroll down and find THEMES then click it.
Choose from the numerous free themes there that have over 100 customization options and click to install it, you are done.
What if you want to upload a third-party theme?
The free version of WordPress do not grant such an opportunity to it’s users.
So to upload a custom theme, you first need to upgrade your plan to a Business plan, then go-to THEMES >> UPLOAD .
Select the theme to upload from your computer or Android device then click upload.
INSTALLING THEME ON SELF HOSTED WORDPRESS
Self hosted WordPress also offers changing of theme to give your blog or website a better look, changing theme on WordPress is easy and straight forward.
To change your theme, you first need to log into your dashboard, from the right-black shaded sidebar.
Find Appearance, hover it, a sub-menu will appear choose THEME by clicking it.
A page will appear with hundreds of free themes to choose, simply choose any of your choice and click install.
After successful installation, click activate to get it working.
Sounds amazing right?
But what if you want to upload a third-party or custom theme?
It’s simple ooo…. Just follow these steps:
STEP ONE: login to your dashboard, by adding /wp-admin to the URL of your website or blog.
For example, if the URL of your blog or website is MYNAME.COM simply write it this way MYNAME.COM/WP-ADMIN and a login page will appear for you to insert your login details.
STEP TWO: After a successful login, go-to the black shaded side and find the link APPEARANCE hover it, and click THEMES in the sub-menus displayed.
STEP THREE: At the top of the displayed page, you will see a button UPLOAD THEME click it.
Another page will appear, drag and drop the zipped theme there or use the box to find it in your device.
Then click upload, after successful installation click activate, to get it working.
NOTE: Self hosted WordPress themes are uploaded in a zip format, so you don’t need to unzip your themes folder.
